High Velocity Systems
High Velocity Air Conditioning circulates air to allow for a thorough mixing of air. This creates a more even comfort level from one floor to the next. You should experience a 2 degree difference from the ceiling to the floor. The system uses 3″ pressurized mini ducts which creates greater velocity. The added velocity does not increase noise but it does aspirate the air more fully removing 30% more humidity than a traditional system. The system does however require more runs of ducts to assure even comfort. As a trade off even though there are more ducts, the registers are small normally 3-1/2″ in diameter, they look very clean mimicking a speaker or light fixture rather than a traditional register.
For heating purposes you can use water, electric heat strips or heat pumps. The systems cost %15 to %20 more but because the ducts are smaller the system is absolutely excellent in renovation work. Due to improvements in technology The Weatherization Company suggest a traditional split systems in new construction and High velocity Systems in renovations and in the right floor plan mini-splits are hard to beat.
