Insulation
Choices, Consequences and Decisions
Bottom-line there are only two choices when it comes to insulating your home foam and everything else. Foam is a tremendous product but it comes with consequences and if your contractor doesn’t explain to you the consequences of foam then you are taking a risk that may keep you up at night.
What Could Go Wrong
When it comes to foam there is only one thing that could go wrong, moisture, moisture, moisture. At The Weatherization Company our first priority is doing what’s best for our customers. And often times foam is the right answer but not always. We take the time to investigate the house and to see if it’s the right solution for you.
For Example
You just had a new unit put in since Katrina and you want to foam the attic. The unit works great and you don’t have the budget to replace it; Will foam work? Maybe, maybe not. Do you have a gas furnace? Is the unit sized properly for the home? Foam tightens the envelope where will all that moisture go that used to escape out the roof. There are no definitive answers without research. You have to do the research you have to go case by case.
Manage Risk and Sleep Like a Baby
Whenever I have tough decisions I often think how will this decision effect my conscious and if my conscious doesn’t line up with my gutt I call in the experts. The truth is cellulose, PolyIso boards and good old batt insulation will allow you to sleep at night knowing that your home is safe but the fact is these products have their own inherent risks. What you need to do is call in the experts and get the advice of our RESNET Auditors let them investigate and make the decision for you and sleep like a baby.
