Durability
ENDURANCE
Durability means that an object will endure when placed in conditions suitable for such an object. But what happens when we change the conditions. Who checks and verifies that what was done makes sense and “no harm” will occur. Truly this is why Building Science exist. Through testing and analysis we can begin to understand what happens at a molecular level when the conditions placed on an object are different that that in which it was designed.
How Long
Under the right conditions an object can last indefinitely or at least until it’s practical use has come to an end, at this point it should be re-purposed or recycled. At The Weatherization Company we take the time to study the Building Science. We take the time to go the extra mile. We are interested in building our reputation on top of our work not words. This is why we offer references, it’s why we take a few extra days on the job.
A Company That Stays Together
This week (5/25/2012) we did two layers of 1″ Polyisocyanurate under an house 8 feet of the ground. Why? Because first off Polyisocyanurate is the best solution to insulate your floor. Two it’s much easier to experiment with this method while standing rather than how we normally install; lying on our backs. Third we needed to know how much more difficult it was to install two layers of Polyisocyanurate 1″ thick, criss corssed than one 2″ layer. In short we lost our butts, even at $3.65 per sqaure foot it was a loser. It is very time consuming and the fatigue on the laborers begins to increase as the job goes on and on. Even at twice the price of closed cell foam I would say under my house Polyisocyanurate is the only way to go. As for my customers we would find it difficult to justify the added cost unless of course the customer cares about durability. If you care about durability then leave the sprayed chemicals out of you home if you don’t care and think comfort today is worth the sacrifice for tomorrow then okay lets spray the foam.
In the end at least we can give you the facts and you can make the decision because we take the risk, we test and we verify.
